FAQs

When can I plant my cut flower seedlings? As soon as you get them!  The last frost has passed, so they are safe to go in the ground.

Where should I plant them? You don’t need a fancy set-up!  These can be planted in containers, established garden beds, or raised beds.  You will want a spot that gets sun most of the day.  A little afternoon shade can be helpful for those hot summer days, but is not required.

Do I need to do anything to my soil before planting? A little compost and fertilizer would be helpful.  There are more details about this in the growing instructions.

When can I expect to start cutting my flowers? By the beginning of July, you should expect to be able to start harvesting your cut flowers!  There will be extensive information about how and when to harvest in the instructions provided to you.

Will these flower plants last more than one year or spread? No, these are annual flower plants, so you will have to replace each year.  They will die at the first frost in the fall.  The plants will fill out, but will not spread throughout the garden.

Approximately how much space do I need in my garden bed to plant these?  Each plant, except Celosia, needs to be spaced 9 inches apart.  Celosia needs 12 inches.

Do I need to provide support for my plants?  Yes!  Because these are cut flower plants, they will get fairly tall.  The cosmos and celosia can easily be over 5 feet tall!  You will want to stake each plant so they don’t blow over with the wind.

How many bouquets can I expect to make this summer?  Realistically, you will be able to harvest at least 3 bouquets this summer that will last 1-2 weeks in a vase.  You will probably get additional smaller bouquets.  All of the flowers are cut and come again or medium producers, meaning, the more times you harvest from them, the more flowers they grow!

How long will my plants continue to bloom?  As long as you continue to water, fertilize and harvest from them, they will keep producing until the first frost date in October.  If you don’t stay on top of harvesting, they will go to seed and then the plants will eventually die.

Are any of these flowers good for drying?  All of these can be dried!  The Gomphrena and Celosia are especially pretty when dried.

If any of this seems overwhelming, don’t worry!  This is why we created the Closed Facebook Group for you to reference, when needed.  Happy Growing!
